Cynthie van Eijden was born in Rotterdam in 1970. She Works as a composer and as a teacher of music theory at the Young Talent Department of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Aachen.
She graduated in piano (1995), composition (1998) and music theory (2008). With a scholarship from the Fonds voor de Podiumkunsten she studied composition with Wolfgang Rihm in Karlsruhe and graduated there at the postgraduate education level “Künstlerisches Aufbaustudium”.
From 1997 onwards her compositions have been played in the Netherlands and abroad, for instance in Greece, Finland, Germany, Italy and Uzbekistan.
Till about 2010 her compositions were influenced by the musical ideals of the new-music-scene. In her present work she abandoned all such influences and chose to create music in which features like personal expression, recognizable melodies and consonant sound are being developed in a new way.
